While Rome, er, East England burned, the 2010 Vancouer Olympics went Carbon Neutral…

So we all know that the “skeptics” took about 10 years worth of emails from a rather “famous” climate dude, er Professor and “exposed” the portions that would please them the most, right in time for the Copenhagen talks which, of course are predicted to produce nothing more than what can truly be classified as “squat” towards the fight against undesirable climate change.

Now was that a long sentence or what?

While there may be a few data manipulating scientists out there, our usual suspects, the skeptics are a bunch of “climate” cross-burners standing at the altar of change and wishing it would all go away.

Go away where?

Maybe the Earth is not getting warmer. Does it mean we have to rape her?

No, right? In that spirit, it is heartening to see that a lot of partners responsible to carry forward the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouer are trying to offset the Carbon emissions from the event and they believe they are going to bring it down to a complete zero!

How far they will be successful at this is something for time to tell us, but the spirit and the hearts are in the right place. That is good enough for yours truly, and I thought you should know.

Visiting the Olympics? How about offsetting your own footprint?

The article itself does not inform you of how to offset your own footprint when visiting the olympics, but I thought I might throw out some ideas:

1. Did you know that if you are rich enough to afford it, you can pay to buy carbon credits, equivalent to your air-travel?  I will post one source here (I am in no way beholden to them):

2. There are of course other things you can do. You could fly into the Olympics, but how about taking public transportation? Or walking to your events?

3. Watch what you buy, how you spend it and be sure to reduce, reuse and recycle.

4. Finally, spread the word – talk to someone about the importance of “Leave No Trace”. I am as guilty of not doing as much as I should, but we all have to start somewhere!

Enjoy!!
